| Reverse description | Central device depicting a cross potent or pattée set upon a three-stepped base (cross on steps), a standard reverse type for Visigothic tremisses of this period and strongly evocative of Byzantine numismatic influence. The cross dominates the field, its arms rendered in bold relief against a flat gold surface. A circular Latin legend surrounds the central device, reading + CESARAGVSTA PIS, identifying the mint of Caesaraugusta and including the conventional pious epithet. The lettering is distributed around the full circumference, separated from the central type by a beaded or plain inner border. The flan edges are irregular and slightly clipped, as is typical of hammered gold coinage of Visigothic Hispania. |
