Reverse description Central field features a tall Latin cross on steps or base, rendered in a bold, stylised manner with a pronounced horizontal bar and a stepped pedestal, closely imitating Byzantine tremissis reverse types. A circular legend in degraded Latin characters surrounds the cross in the field, reading partially as NSNASRRAS or similar barbarous rendition. The cross is the dominant design element, centrally placed and deeply struck. The overall composition reflects the transitional Arab-Byzantine coinage tradition, wherein Islamic authorities retained Christian iconographic elements alongside religious Latin inscriptions asserting monotheistic belief. The execution is irregular and somewhat crude, consistent with the hammered provincial coinage of Umayyad Ifriqiya circa 704.
