Chintila's reign lasted roughly three years before his death in late 639, and his issues from the Cordoba mint fall within a period of intense ecclesiastical politics — he convened the Fourth and Fifth Councils of Toledo, both of which reinforced royal authority over the church while formally expelling Jews from the kingdom. Whether those councils materially influenced mint output at Cordoba is unknown, but the city's importance as a southern administrative center ensured continued gold production throughout his reign. Pliego 487 is among the scarcer Chintila tremisses by documented survivors.
