Chindasuinth seized the Visigothic throne in 642 at roughly 79 years old, having led a revolt against Tulga. One of his first acts was a systematic purge of the nobility — hundreds executed or mutilated — which consolidated royal authority more completely than any of his predecessors had managed. The Córdoba mint operated under this newly centralized power, and tremisses bearing his name reflect a reign defined by deliberate, often brutal, administrative consolidation.
