| 背面描述 | John III Doukas-Vatatzes, Emperor of Nicaea (r. 1221–1254), depicted enthroned facing in imperial regalia, his right hand resting upon a sword laid horizontally across his knees. The figure wears the loros and crown befitting a Byzantine emperor. A Greek legend in the field identifies the ruler as Iω ΔΕΣΠΟΤΗ O ΔΥΚΑΣ (John Doukas the Despot). The engraving reflects the competent but abbreviated style typical of Nicaean billon coinage of the mid-thirteenth century. |
