| Beschrijving keerzijde | Scyphate reverse depicting two full-length figures standing facing: at left, Emperor Andronikos II Palaiologos, bearded, robed in divitision and chlamys, wearing a stemma with pendilia and a maniakion, holding a cross-tipped sceptre in his right hand and the akakia in his left; at right, St. George, nimbate and beardless, clad in military attire comprising body armour with pteryges, chiton, and sagion, his right hand extended in the act of crowning the emperor and his left hand holding a downward-pointed sword. In the central field above, a cloud with a star issues the Manus Dei, which extends downward to bless the emperor. The composition reflects the standard Palaiologan formula of imperial legitimation through saintly intercession. |
