Reverse description The distinctive Cross of the Order of Christ occupies the central field, rendered as a bold, double-armed cross patée with a smaller inner cross, characteristic of the Portuguese military-religious iconography of the period. Mint marks and auxiliary symbols appear in the four quadrants flanking the cross. The circumferential legend in Latin script is separated by asterisk stops and runs continuously around the border of the irregularly struck hammered flan.
