Obverse description The obverse of the host coin (here an 80 réis piece of Pedro II of Portugal, dated 1691) displays the crowned Portuguese royal arms at center, with the denomination LXXX (80) inscribed below in Roman numerals. The encircling legend reads PETRVS II D G REX PORTV[G], referencing King Pedro II. The entire design is struck within a beaded border. The Pedro V 'small crown' countermark, applied in 1854, appears punched into the field, partially overlapping the original design elements.
