| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned Portuguese royal arms — a shield bearing the five escutcheons in quincunx each charged with five bezants (quinas), enclosed within a border of castles — all surmounted by an ornate royal crown. The mint letters 'P' and 'O' flank the shield to left and right respectively, identifying the Porto mint. A circular legend in Latin characters surrounds the design within a beaded border, reading SBASTIANVS I REX PORTVGALIA ET P-O, proclaiming King Sebastian I of Portugal. |
