| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field occupied by the Portuguese royal arms: a quartered shield bearing five escutcheons in cross formation, each charged with five bezants (quinas), and a base with seven castles representing the kingdom of Algarve, the whole surmounted by an open crown. The shield is set within a decorative mantle or ornamental surround. A circular beaded border frames the design, with the royal legend distributed around the periphery in Latin characters, partially visible due to the irregular flan typical of hammered coinage. |
