Obverse description Full-length frontal effigy of the Emperor standing in imperial regalia, holding a cross-tipped scepter in his right hand and the akakia in his left; the Manus Dei (Hand of God) descends in benediction over his left shoulder. The figure is rendered in the hieratic Byzantine court style, with the emperor depicted in formal dress against a flat field. A Greek legend identifying the ruler as Lord Andronicus is arranged in the field to either side of the imperial figure.
