Reverse description The Portuguese royal arms displayed in cross arrangement at center, comprising five escutcheons bearing the quinas (five bezants in saltire) disposed in a cruciform pattern, with a single escutcheon at each cardinal point and one at center. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a circular Latin legend around the periphery reading FERNANDVS REX PORTVGALS. The heraldic composition is rendered in low relief consistent with the hammered billon coinage of the reign of Fernando I.
