Obverse description The obverse features a relief depiction of a fully equipped paratrooper descending by parachute in the left field, with military transport aircraft and additional parachutists in the upper field, and a large arched steel bridge in the right field representing the battle for the Rhine crossings. In the lower exergue, four circular medallions bear the flags of the Allied nations involved in the operation. The curved legend along the upper rim reads 'OPERATIE MARKET GARDEN' with the dates '17-25 SEPTEMBER 1944' below.

Reverse description The reverse displays a large incuse 'V' for Victory dominating the field, overlaid with a bold relief of the rampant Dutch lion to the right. Four doves of peace in flight are scattered across the left and upper field. The legend 'Vrede & Vrijheid' is inscribed diagonally along the left stroke of the 'V', and the date '5 mei 1945' appears in the lower exergue.
