Obverse description The obverse reproduces in high relief the design of the U.S. 13-cent stamp commemorating the Declaration of Independence, based on a detail from John Trumbull's painting depicting the presentation of the draft to Congress. The denomination legend 'USA / 13c' appears in the upper left field, and the date legend 'JULY 4, 1776' is inscribed in a recessed panel along the lower border. The entire piece is finished in 24-karat gold plating over sterling silver, with a serrated border imitating stamp perforations.
