Lasqueti Island, a small off-grid community in British Columbia's Strait of Georgia, has operated largely outside mainstream infrastructure since the 1970s — no BC Hydro connection, no car ferry. The token was issued by the so-called Lasqueti Mint as part of a local exchange experiment consistent with the island's long-running countercultural self-sufficiency ethic. Whether it saw genuine circulation or was primarily a novelty issue remains unclear from surviving documentation.
