Obverse description	The obverse features a bi-metallic style design with two Papal Swiss Guards flanking the Papal coat of arms at top, two inset coin reproductions in the central field — one bearing the profile of Pope John Paul II inscribed CITTÀ DEL VATICANO and one with the papal arms inscribed JOANNES PAVLVS II P.M. — and a relief view of St. Peter's Basilica in the lower field. The legend GIOVANNI PAOLO II arcs along the upper rim, with the date 2001 in the exergue.
