Obverse description Central device depicts a crowned enthroned figure of Philip IV (Philip the Fair) in high relief, holding a scepter in his right hand and an orb in his left, set within a polylobe frame. A beaded inner border surrounds the device, with a circular legend reading PHILIPPVS DEI GRACIA FRANCORVM REX around the periphery, reproducing the design of the original Masse d'Or coinage of 1296.
