Široké is a small village in eastern Slovakia's Prešov Region, and like dozens of Slovak municipalities in the post-2000 period, it issued local tokens tied to the Sokol physical culture movement — an organization with roots in 19th-century Bohemia that survived two occupations and a communist takeover before re-establishing itself across Slovak civic life after 1989. These municipal tokens functioned as entry or participation markers at Sokol events rather than as general circulation currency.
