| Beschrijving keerzijde | A bold cross pattée occupies the central field, with a prominent annulet or pellet ornament placed within each of the four angles, a design derived from late Roman and Merovingian cross-type prototypes. Radiating lines or wedge-shaped elements extend outward from the cross toward the coin's border, imparting a sunburst or rayed appearance. A runic legend in the Elder Futhark encircles the entire design, reading the moneyer's name 'Pada'. A border of pellets frames the composition. The execution is vigorous but irregular, consistent with the hammered artisanal production of mid-seventh-century Anglo-Saxon thrymsas. |
