Obverse description Crowned quartered royal arms of Hannover and Great Britain, supported by the Garter motto belt encircling the shield, with the legend of King William IV's titles arranged around the outer border. The elaborate shield displays the lions of England, the lion of Scotland, the harp of Ireland, and the white horse of Hannover in the inescutcheon, surmounted by a royal crown. The full circumferential legend reads WILHELM IV V. G. G. KOENIG V. GROSSBRIT. IRL. U. HANNOVER, with the Garter motto HONI SOIT QUI MAL Y PENSE appearing on the garter encircling the arms.
