Victor II Frederick issued this piece in 1758, deep into the Seven Years' War, a conflict that dragged Anhalt-Bernburg into the financial and military orbit of larger German powers whether it wished to be or not. The small principality had no meaningful standing army of its own, yet war coinage was necessary to meet occupying and allied troop payments alike. The Mann#629 b designation distinguishes this from closely related die variants catalogued by Mann — a distinction that matters more than the KM reference for serious collectors of Anhalt issues.
