| Obverse description | The quartered coat of arms of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg occupies the central field, rendered in fine detail with heraldic charges including lions, a horse, and an inescutcheon bearing additional devices. The shield is draped with an ermine-lined mantle tied at the upper corners with tasselled cords, and surmounted by a jewelled grand ducal crown. No peripheral legend appears on the obverse; the entire design is devoted to the armorial achievement in a formal neoclassical heraldic style. |

| Reverse description | The denomination is expressed in large, bold capital letters across the central field in four lines, reading '3 / EINEN / THALER / 1816', with the numeral '3' prominently placed at the top. The circular peripheral legend 'OLDENB. COUR. MÜNZE' arcs along the upper portion of the rim, identifying the coin as Oldenburg currency. The field is plain and unadorned, placing full emphasis on the typographic denomination and date. The reeded edge is visible, consistent with milled coinage of the period. |
