The surrounding legend is inscribed along the inner border, reading MON NOVA CIVITATIS MAGDEBURG with the date 1676, and the countermark date 1681 (rendered as 16S81) integrated into the legend. The overall design is characteristic of late seventeenth-century German civic coinage, with ornate cartouche scrollwork framing the shield. |
