Obverse description Within a raised circular border, the elaborate arms of the Imperial City of Zürich occupy the central field: three interlocking curved shields arranged in trefoil fashion bear the city's heraldic charges, flanked by two rampant lions as supporters and surmounted by an imperial crown. Above the crowned achievement, a displayed imperial double-headed eagle is partially visible at the top of the inner circle. The square klippe format features a richly ornamented outer border filled with repetitive floral and cross motifs in the corners and along the margins. The circumferential Latin legend reads MON · NO · THVRICENSIS · CIVITATIS · IMPERIALIS, with the date 1559 incorporated into the lower portion of the central composition.
