| Beschrijving keerzijde | Central device depicting a rocky island or promontory rising from a turbulent sea, surmounted by a tall palm tree, with two sailing ships flanking the island on either side — an allegorical maritime emblem referencing the ducal motto. The scene is enclosed within a beaded inner border. In the lower field, within the border, appears the silver fineness inscription V·FEIN·SILB: flanking the denomination mark 2/3 within an oval cartouche, with the engraver's initials H and B placed to either side. The circumferential Latin legend reads EXDURIS GLORIA·ANNO·M·DC·LXXIX, meaning 'Glory from hardship, in the year 1679,' rendered in Roman numerals. The overall composition reflects the emblematic design tradition of the Brunswick ducal coinage. |
