附加信息

The Bishopric of Chur occupied an unusual political position in early modern Switzerland — a Catholic ecclesiastical territory surrounded by the increasingly Reformed Graubünden, whose population had converted to Protestantism by the early sixteenth century. Johann V von Flugi af Aspermont, who held the see from 1601 to 1627, governed through the particularly volatile years of the Thirty Years' War, during which Graubünden became a contested corridor for Spanish troop movements through the Valtelline. This thaler was struck at the tail end of his episcopate, in the immediate aftermath of the Valtelline crisis of 1620–25.

The two-year production window ending in 1626 likely reflects mint activity tied to the brief political stabilization following the Treaty of Monzon.
