| Obverse description | Central field occupied by a quartered heraldic shield bearing the arms of the Bishopric of Basel impaled with those of the von Schönau-Zell family, surmounted by an episcopal mitre and a crozier with a small figure of a saint above the escutcheon. Mint marks S and H flank the shield to left and right respectively. The circular Latin legend reads IOH • FRANCIS • D : G • EPISCOP : BASILIEN: S H, separated by pellets, running along the outer border which is defined by a fine beaded rim. |
