Obverse description Central field displays the quartered arms of Reuss-Greiz, elaborately supported within an ermine-lined princely mantle draped symmetrically to either side, surmounted by a royal crown. The shield incorporates multiple heraldic quarterings with fine detail, and an order chain pendant is visible at the base of the mantling. The circumferential legend in Latin reads in raised relief around the full periphery of the coin, identifying the ruler Henry XIII as Prince of Reuss.

Reverse description The denomination is expressed in three lines of bold raised lettering at center — '3 EINEN THALER' — with the date '1809' below and the mintmaster's initial 'L' at the very base, all enclosed within a wreath of oak branches tied at the foot. The upper arc of the wreath is interrupted by the legend 'XL EINE FEINE MARK', indicating the fineness standard of forty pieces to the fine mark. The composition of oak leaves and acorns is rendered with naturalistic detail, characteristic of early nineteenth-century German coinage.
