George I spent virtually his entire reign after 1714 governing Britain, leaving Hanover administered by ministers and his son — a son he despised and had placed under house arrest following a bitter public quarrel in 1717. Coinage issued from Hanover during these years reflects that absentee rule: output was managed locally with little direct royal involvement, and the series shows considerable die variation across the period.
