Obverse description Unadorned bare-headed effigy of Frederick William IV facing right, rendered in high relief with fine portraiture detail showing naturalistically styled hair. The king's truncation is cut cleanly at the neck. A beaded border encircles the design. The surrounding legend reads FRIEDR. WILH. IV KOENIG V. PREUSSEN, with the Berlin mint mark A positioned at the base of the truncation.

Reverse description The Prussian royal arms displayed as a crowned heraldic shield bearing the Hohenzollern eagle with spread wings, orb, and sceptre, set within an ornate decorative inner border composed of small cruciform and floral ornaments. The denomination legend VI EINEN THALER arcs along the upper left and the fine gold standard LXXXIV EINE F.M. arcs along the upper right, with the date 18 49 divided across the lower field. A beaded outer border frames the entire composition.
