Aanvullende informatie

Frederick William, the "Great Elector," struck these coins during the period immediately following his decisive victory at the Battle of Fehrbellin in June 1675 — the engagement that shattered Swedish military prestige in northern Europe and confirmed Brandenburg-Prussia as a legitimate military power. The timing of this issue places it squarely within a moment of unusual fiscal confidence for the electorate.

The 1/3 Thaler denomination was a practical concession to the North German trade environment, where the full Thaler was too large for everyday commerce but smaller fractions moved too freely to hold.
