| 背面描述 | Central six-line inscription within the field stating the denomination and date, flanked by decorative elements and accompanied by the mintmaster's initials. The surrounding legend identifies the issuing authority of Hesse as the Landgraviate, with the full title abbreviated in the customary manner of German territorial coinage of the period. Punctuation marks serve as dividers between legend elements, and the mintmaster's initials appear in the lower portion of the inscription. |

Frederick II of Hesse-Cassel financed his court largely by leasing his subjects as soldiers to foreign powers — most notoriously to the British Crown for service in North America, a practice that generated enormous revenue through the 1770s. This issue falls precisely at the opening of that arrangement, when the subsidies were being negotiated and Hessian treasury activity was unusually high. The landgraviate's coinage of this period reflects a solvent, if morally compromised, fiscal operation.
