Thaler First Thaler coin struck; Italian legend

This piece commemorates the original Guldengroschen struck in Hall, Tyrol in 1486 — the first large silver coin of its type in European history, and the direct ancestor of the thaler denomination that would go on to shape monetary systems from the Holy Roman Empire to the Spanish dollar and, eventually, the American dollar itself. The Italian legend references the Austro-Italian administrative tradition of the Tyrolean region in the fifteenth century.
