The legend FERDINAND I + IMP + AVG + P + F + DECRETO + encircles the eagle within a beaded border, invoking the authority of Emperor Ferdinand I and the Imperial decree under which Colmar was granted minting rights. The composition is consistent with the Reichsthaler standard adopted by Imperial free cities in the latter half of the sixteenth century. |
