| Obverse description | Central field features the elaborate crowned interlaced cypher of Elector Ernest August (EA monogram), surmounted by an electoral crown. The date 1696 is divided to either side of the monogram within the field. The circular Latin legend reads SOLA BONA QUAE HONESTA, meaning 'Only that which is honourable is good,' separated by ornamental stops. At the base of the field, flanking the mintmaster's initials HB, the fineness and denomination inscription FEIN SILB: 1/3 indicates one-third fine silver content. |
