Obverse description Draped bust of Duke Charles III facing left, depicted with shoulder-length hair and a ruffled collar, rendered in fine engraved detail characteristic of late 16th-century Lorraine coinage. The effigy is contained within a beaded inner circle. The circumferential Latin legend reads CARO D G CAL LOTH B GEL DVX, with the date 1571 appearing in the lower exergual area beneath the bust.
