| 裏面の説明 | Half-length figure of Saint Gallus facing slightly left, nimbed and rendered in high relief, holding a pastoral staff in his right hand and a loaf of bread in his left, with a bear at his side in the lower field — a reference to the saint's legendary encounter. Radiating glory lines emanate from behind the figure, filling the inner field. The complete Latin scriptural legend from Romans 2:10 encircles the design along the outer border, punctuated by mullets. |

Struck under Abbot Bernhard Müller, who governed Saint Gall from 1594 until his death in 1630, this thaler was issued during the Thirty Years' War — a conflict that placed the Swiss Confederation's ecclesiastical territories under enormous political pressure despite the Confederation's nominal neutrality. The Abbey of Saint Gall maintained its independence as an imperial abbey directly subordinate to the Holy Roman Emperor, a status that made issuing coin a right Müller exercised deliberately.
The HMZ census records only a handful of die marriages for this type, suggesting limited production runs rather than a sustained mint program.
