Alexander Charles ruled Anhalt-Bernburg for over four decades but died without legitimate issue in 1863, extinguishing the Bernburg line entirely. The duchy was absorbed by Anhalt-Dessau-Köthen, and this small thaler fraction — struck in the final two years of his reign — represents some of the last coinage produced before that consolidation permanently ended Bernburg's independent monetary history.
