| Obverse description | Draped bust of Duke Adolphus Frederick III facing right, wearing armour with elaborate ornamentation and a crown atop flowing curled hair. The portrait is rendered in a bold baroque style characteristic of early 18th-century German coinage. The circular legend reads D G ADOL FRID DUX MECKL with the date 1703 incorporated into the legend. The coin is struck within a beaded inner border. |

| Additional information |
Adolphus Frederick III ruled Mecklenburg-Strelitz for less than four years before his death in 1708, leaving a short and administratively thin coinage record. The duchy itself had only been formally constituted as a separate line in 1701, following the partition of Mecklenburg between the Schwerin and Strelitz branches — meaning this 1703 piece was struck within the first two years of the new duchy's existence as an independent issuing authority.
Kunzel 546 A/a designates the earliest die pairing recorded for this type.
