| Obverse description | Central field displays the arms of the City of Cologne: a horizontally divided shield with three crowns in the upper half and an ermine-like pattern of fleurs-de-lis in the lower half, surmounted by an ornate crown and flanked by elaborate baroque cartouche scrollwork. The denomination mark '1/6' and the mintmaster's initials 'IIH' appear at the base of the shield. The circular Latin legend reads MON.NOVA.ARG.CIVIT.COLON, identifying this as a new silver coin of the City of Cologne, separated by decorative stops. The coin's outer border features a finely milled edge pattern. |
