| Obverse description | The heraldic lion of Zürich rampant to the right occupies the centre of the field, holding an upright sword in its right forepaw and supporting the oval arms of Zürich — divided diagonally — with its left forepaw. The lion is rendered in fine detail with a flowing mane, set against a plain field on a ground line of fine stippling. A circular Latin legend surrounds the device, reading REPUBLICAE TIGURINAE above and *MONETA* below, separated by small rosette stops. The whole is enclosed within a finely milled border. |
