Obverse description Elaborate helmeted civic coat of arms of Magdeburg, quartered with charges including roses and a tower, set within ornate baroque cartouche with scrolling mantling. A figure finial surmounts the helm at top center. The mintmaster's initials CP appear in the field to either side of the shield. The circular legend MONETA*NOVA*CIV*MAGDEBURG* runs around the periphery in Latin capitals.

Reverse description Five-line Latin inscription within a wreath composed of laurel and palm branches tied at the base, reading VERBUM / DOMINI / MANET·IN· / ÆTERNUM / 1672, with the fraction 2/3 placed below the date, all enclosed within the wreath. The motto, meaning 'The Word of the Lord endureth forever', was a common Protestant device on German coinage of the period.
