Obverse description Central device consisting of the Basel crozier (the city's heraldic symbol) set within an ornate wreath of foliage, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The crozier is rendered in fine relief with elaborate decorative scrollwork at the crook. The surrounding Latin legend, separated by lozenge stops, reads MONETA NOVA VRBIS BASILIEN with the date 1622, running clockwise from the top.

Reverse description A displayed Imperial eagle with wings spread and head turned to the left, rendered in bold relief within a beaded inner circle. The eagle's breast bears a small shield with the Basel crozier. The surrounding Latin legend, separated by ornamental stops, reads DOMINE CONSERVA NOS IN PACE (Lord, preserve us in peace), a pious inscription characteristic of Swiss city coinage of the period.
