Obverse description The heraldic bear of St. Gallen depicted passant rampant, facing left, with a collar around its neck, rendered in high relief against a smooth field. The figure is contained within an inner beaded border. The surrounding circular legend in Latin reads the city's monetary authority, with the date incorporated into the legend at the top of the coin. The bear, the traditional emblem of the city, is depicted with fine engraved fur detailing characteristic of early seventeenth-century Swiss municipal coinage.

An open imperial crown surmounts the eagle at the top of the field. The entire design is enclosed within a beaded inner border. The surrounding Latin legend, reading as a devotional inscription attributing praise and glory solely to God Almighty, encircles the motif, separated by small rosette stops.
