正面描述 Central composition featuring three heraldic shields arranged in a triangular grouping beneath a large imperial crown, with the eagle of the Swiss Confederation displayed on the uppermost shield and the ox of Zug on the lower shields. Two rampant lions serve as supporters flanking the shield arrangement, each rendered in fine relief with naturalistic detail. A beaded inner border frames the design, with the date numeral 65 incorporated into the circumferential legend. The overall heraldic composition is executed in the elaborate Renaissance style characteristic of Swiss cantonal coinage of the mid-sixteenth century.

附加信息

Zug was among the smallest and least populous of the Swiss cantons, which makes its independent thaler coinage of the 1560s somewhat surprising in scale. The piece exists partly because Swiss cantonal pride drove even minor members of the Confederation to assert minting rights, and partly because the mid-sixteenth century saw sustained demand for large silver trade coins across the German-speaking world following the Joachimsthaler's commercial success decades earlier.

HMZ 2-1077b distinguishes this as a specific die variety within the 1565 Zug series — a small but meaningful distinction given how few examples surface at auction.
