Reverse description Within a shallow incuse square of linear border, a youthful male head faces left, rendered with fine classical workmanship. The hair is styled in short, neatly combed locks swept back from the forehead in a manner consistent with late fifth- to early fourth-century Greek portraiture. The legend ΠΡΩΤΗΣ, identifying the magistrate Protes, runs vertically along the right side of the incuse square in retrograde Greek characters. The recessed square format is typical of contemporary Thracian Greek civic coinage.
