| 表面の説明 | Lion's head facing left in high relief, jaws agape and tongue protruding, rendered in an archaic style characteristic of late 6th- to early 5th-century BC Thracian coinage. The mane is depicted with bold, deeply cut striations radiating around the neck and crown, conveying a vigorous naturalistic energy. The eye is rendered in high relief, and the dentition is clearly articulated in the lower jaw. No inscription or legend appears in the field. The design fills the flan, typical of the hammered coinage of the Thracian Chersonese region under Miltiades II. |

Kardia sat at the neck of the Thracian Chersonese, and Miltiades II governed the peninsula as a hereditary tyrant under loose Athenian patronage — before that arrangement collapsed entirely. His coinage dates to the window between the Ionian Revolt, in which he participated, and his forced flight from the Chersonese ahead of the Persian advance under Darius. By 493 BC he was gone, the Dolonci who had invited his family to rule the region a generation earlier now under Achaemenid control.
SNG Copenhagen 344–345 represents the primary reference for the type, and surviving examples are genuinely scarce.
