| Obverse description | Nearly facing head of Hermes, turned very slightly to the left, rendered in fine archaic style with full, rounded facial features. The god wears a broad-brimmed petasos, its brim clearly delineated above the forehead, with locks of hair visible at the temples falling in stylised curls to either side of the face. The portrait fills the flan with considerable presence, the eyes depicted in a naturalistic forward-gazing manner characteristic of the Ainaean mint's accomplished die-cutters of this period. |
