| Descripción del reverso | Two upright ears of barley — the civic emblem of Metapontion — depicted in high relief with finely engraved grain kernels and pendant leaves, their stalks converging toward the lower field. Between the stalks at the base appears the ethnic abbreviation ΣΙ, while the letters Μ and Ε flank the ears in the left and right fields respectively, together forming the abbreviated ethnic legend ΜΕ-ΣΙ (for ΜΕΤΑΠΟΝΤΙΝΩΝ). The composition is bold and naturalistic, reflecting the celebrated artistry of Metapontine die engravers. |
