Tetrobol

Methymna, on the north coast of Lesbos, was one of the five major poleis of the island and a persistent rival to the dominant Mytilene. Unlike Mytilene, which struck its famous billon hekte within the Lesbian electrum coinage tradition, Methymna issued silver on the Aeginetic standard — a deliberate alignment with Aegean trade networks rather than the island's own monetary conventions. The SNG von Aulock 1737 reference places this piece among a thinly documented series, and attributions within early Methymnan coinage remain contested in the literature.
